Happy New Year!

To all those observing, or at least taking note of the Jewish New Year, L'shanah tovah!
I had my apples and honey earlier before dinner, so hopefully the new year will be prosperous. I suppose the good thing about being religious is that I don't have to go to temple tonight or any other night, but I do get to eat. I thought about buying some matzoh ball soup but it's still too hot for soup.

I was excited to see that honey crisp apples are out now, so I bought 2. They really don't need to then be dipped in honey since they taste so good already, but such is the tradition. I also made myself a quiche, which cooked up very nicely I have to say, except for the sad fact that it was pretty boring. I used Colby cheese instead of cheddar, so it lacked bite and I also didn't have any lemon for the broccoli, so overall the taste was a bit dull. I think a bit of chipotle sauce or some bbq sauce or something would help a bit. The broccoli did come out perfect though, and beautifully green. I had too much milk and not enough egg so although the whole thing cooked well, there was a lot of extra liquid. Oh well, maybe eventually I'll get this quiche thing right.

Coolest Vehicle Adornment of the day

Yesterday I saw the best stick on a 4x4 that I've seen in a while. I'm not super into Zombies, except for the movie Zombieland, but I did find this sticker clever, and appropriate for a big vehicle like that. With my new interest in Jeeps I've been keeping my eye out for those type of cars.

I was driving so I wasn't able to snap a picture of the back window but I found the sticker on a Jeep forum. Thank God for the internet. According to the forum you can order them online at edecal.com where you can put any text in and create a sticker. You can also find it on Amazon or you could if the buyer actually would ship it to you. Amazon has bad reviews for the seller. They seem to crop up on Ebay as well. Maybe if I end up getting a Jeep I will have to invest.

Hungry Girl Musings

Fun food fact of the day:
In ancient times, rice was considered to be a sign of fertility. The reason we throw rice at weddings is to ensure a marriage filled with plenty of healthy children.

Food Gripe of the day: Organic Milk
I love organic milk, in fact I pretty much only buy my milk organic if I can. I think I may have mentioned this, but I just think it tastes better. My only question is, why can you only buy organic milk in gallons? I'm only one person, and while I often do drink a lot of milk, sometimes I just want a little so it won't go bad. I've never seen Organic milk sold in something smaller than a gallon. Can organic cows only produce milk in gallons? Seriously, does

anyone have any answer to this? Is it just a gimmick to ge
t you to spend more? It's expensive enough, but I'm a food snob on some things and milk is one of them. I also think some of the brands taste better than others. Horizon tend
s to be my favorite. I will add that I've seen little juice pack size organic milk and choco
late milk but nothing in between that and a gallon.

Halloween and Bloggery

The weather has finally decided that it's ok for it to be fall! Hooray! As I said, I'm super excited about this. I've been eating orange oreos and even drinking tea!

Unfortunately I also seem to have gotten some sort of sickness for the fall season. Oh yay. The sore throat is the real reason for drinking the tea. Still, nothing is going to get me down with the arrival of cool weather.

I started the preparations for our awesome H house. Pictures will be coming shortly, but I will say that I've started creating some tombstones, and I took a trip to Target to pick up a few odds and ends, including the always essential spider webs. I'm pretty excited.

There's candy everywhere, not that I've bought any.... yet.

Also, I recently discovered a new blog while looking for some baked tofu ideas. It's such a cool name that I have to mention it because I'm insanely jealous that I didn't think of it first. It's called Foodusaurus Rex. She has some cool recipes so pass on the love.

It's almost Fall....

Despite the fact that it seems to suddenly be 80 degrees again this week, it is actually about to be fall... I think.

With the Autumn season comes so many amazing flavors, not to mention cool crisp air, sweaters, boots, pumpkin picking, apple picking Halloween and general leaves falling from the trees merriment. (Oh man, now I really wish I had a backpack and was heading off to school).

At any rate, I've started the season by buying the first pack of orange colored Oreos! Honestly, I think things just taste better when they are orange. I also discovered that oreos have taken on another interesting twist by making football shaped oreos. I'm not really into sports, but it's still kind of a cool idea.

I can't wait for the weather actually gets cooler. Besides all of the funtastic things that come with fall, it will also be my blogiversary in a month! Crazy! It's almost been a year since I embarked on my food documentation adventures. I'll try and keep more up to date. More food adventures to come!

California Pizza Kitchen

I was excited and confused to see California Pizza kitchen at a rest stop near King of Prussia. I didn't know that they had fast food places in addition to restaurants. I've only eaten at a California Pizza Kitchen a few times- there was one in the mall near my house in Jersey, but it was always delicious. They have ( or had, I'm not really sure) an amazing goat cheese and red pepper pizza to die for. YUM.

Anyway, I couldn't get over the fact that they were in a rest stop. Apparently they've sold the company to some company that has stakes in a bunch of fast food places.

Unfortunately, I suspect that with the rest stop location comes fast food quality. A little poking around the internet found someone's flicker pictures of a pizza they got in King of Prussia and despite their comments that it was good, it has that fast food icky look to it. Pizza picture! Since I haven't tried it yet, the verdict isn't out. But maybe some time soon I will report back.

Spicy and Delicious

So I've heard from some certain readers, ahem, relatives, that I haven't been keeping up to date. This is true. I also moved recently and am settling into yet another house!! Ahhh! This one is great though, and further east, which seems to be the direction I'm moving on this little island.

I have been eating things, though mostly I have been fairly lazy with cooking until now. I'm sad to report that I did not transplant my cucumber plants during the move, because they were essentially dead already, as was the one pea plant. I did eat one of the baby cucumbers and it was delicious, but I kept hoping the plants would grow bigger. Unfortunately, they just withered and died. Oh well. I might try and grow a green pepper now.

I just tried a new Indian pre-made dish, which was pretty tasty. In fact, it was uber spicy and definitely lived up to its origins. My only complaint about this dal ( lentils), was that it was pretty thick, so it needed some water added. I also added some mushrooms and chard because, why not? The brand is called MTR and I found it at Wegmans ( one of the best stores ever). So this gets my vote as good pre-made Indian food, which is hard to come by.

My other new found spicy love is chili paste. Thanks to dinner at a Thai place with my friend, I have now developed a fond crush on chili paste. It's hot, but also sweet sort of in a weird way. I think the chili paste was substantially less hot than the dal. But man does it taste good on whatever. So basically I'll be eating barbecue sauce and chili paste for a while. I also thought this fried rice in a pineapple from the Thai place was pretty cool.

In other news, its nearly fall!!! This is exciting not only because the weather gets deliciously crisp, but because fall has some of my favorite tastes and smells! I already saw the orange colored oreos in the supermarket, which is a great start to the season, and Dunkin Donuts is advertising apple cider. I'm contemplating how to decorate my house to make it uber creepy. So excited for fall!
